Thank you to everyone who took part in and came out to the 5th annual Creatively United for the Planet Sustainability Showcase at Royal Bay Secondary in Colwood which opened Friday evening with a beautiful sold out farm-to-table meal, live music, art and dancing. The decor, food, ambiance and company was world class. Thank you to all our incredible sponsors and a team of fantastic volunteers who helped create a night to remember.

Saturday, April 15th was full on with 30 presenters, more than 75 exhibitors, live music, art and more than 1000 people.

The Earth Week festivities continue at the Royal BC Museum, with an inspired evening of revolutionary art and film with Franke James and Sarah Robertson this Friday, April 22, from 7-10 pm (Earth Day) and continuing Sat., April 23 from 1-5 pm with live music, art, and two incredible workshops suitable for all ages. In Good Company

What an honour stand on the steps of the Legislative Buildings in my beautiful home city with the likes of The Honourable Elizabeth May, Green Party MP; Victoria City councillor and business woman extraordinaire Shellie Gudgeon; Port Angeles USA Deputy Mayor Patrick Downie; 5x Tedx speaker/new economy leader Donna Morton;
Butch Dick of the Songhees First Nations and in the company of runners gathered from all over the world, to receive the prestigious, international 2014 Sri Chinmoy Torch Bearer Award at the Sri-Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace Run.

The Peace Run, now in its 27th year is the longest torch relay in the world and takes place in more than 100 countries on six continents. The Canadian run starts in Victoria as part of a 10,000 mile journey across North America in the spirit of peace and harmony. It does not seek to raise money or promote any political or religious cause, but is about spreading goodwill among people of all nations.

I’m grateful to Narmada Trausz, Vancouver Island Peace Run Coordinator, to have been nominated to receive this year’s Torch Award and was equally delighted to be in the company of fellow award recipient Donna Morton, and also accept a Torch Award on behalf of Nigel Seale (Founder of Earth Day Canada) and deliver his acceptance speech.

Always The School Teacher

I recently had the great pleasure to attend a lovely forest walk at Royal Roads University led by Robert Bateman, one of my conservation heroes, who also happens to be one of the world’s finest artists and a supporter of Creatively United for the Planet.

Always the school teacher, he quickly managed to round everyone up and keep our undivided attention while he shared his latest adventures, sketches and stories, plus shared his vast knowledge of the natural world.

What a gift it is to have someone like Robert Bateman in our community. Some of his past students from more than 40 years ago were even in attendance to say “hello” to their favourite teacher and hear yet another talk by him.
