Esquimalt Arts Festival 2017

I’m compiling photography and working on all kinds of creative new art to display this upcoming Saturday at the Township of Esquimalt Arts Festival in Memorial Park, on Esquimalt Road across from the municipal hall.

The event features more than 25 local artists and art making, live music, plus several carvers from the Songhees and Esquimalt Nations who will demonstrate their art and share stories from their people.

Free admission. Outdoors, rain or shine. Come and say hi!

Beautiful Gallery Space

Thank you to Alice Bacon and John Carswell of the Brentwood Bay Village Emporium for the opportunity to be the featured artist in their beautiful gallery/coffee emporium. With the help of artist Jennifer Witvliet, 14 of my images are up in a fabulous space dedicated to showcasing local artists until March 7th. They also have live music evenings.

Photography and art lovers are in for a special treat this Sat., Feb. 11th.
The Creatively United for the Planet Society presents The Gift of Change, an inspirational multi-media show featuring the stunning imagery of one of Canada’s most awarded landscape photographers, the late Courtney Milne.

Tickets are just $35 and that includes admission to the gallery, this incredible program and lovely edibles. Sat., Feb. 11th, 6:30-8:30 pm, at The Robert Bateman Centre, where I also have a piece in the Boxed Sanctuary show continuing until Feb. 28th.

Come and enjoy a wide selection of local art displayed throughout the beautiful grounds of the English Inn, 429 Lampson St., this upcoming Sunday, August 14th, from 11 am to 4 pm. Creatively United Art Show

Thanks to CanvasPlus for doing such a fabulous job in printing the canvases I had on display at the 5th Annual Creatively United for the Planet Sustainability Showcase this past April at both Royal Bay Secondary and the Royal BC Museum.

Jan Dong was a total pro in how she hung the show and to be in the company of so many talented artists was a real highlight.

Arts Festival

Thank you to everyone who dropped by to say HI and visit my photography display at the Esquimalt Arts Festival this past Sunday in Gorge Park, including Mayor Barbara Desjardin and councillors Lynda Hundleby, Meagan Brame, Bob McKie and Tim Morrison.
It was a scorching day and perfect for the Gorge Swim Fest which was held simultaneously. I was grateful to be located in the shade of a glorious willow tree and commend all the volunteers and organizers of the event, including Morlene Tomlinson and Louise Ryan.

Sidney Fine Arts 2013

And now for something completely different!!!…

Trying to determine what to enter into the annual adjudicated Sidney Fine Art Show is always a fun and creative process. Fortunately, the judges have rewarded my efforts and given me the opportunity to show my work annually in this show for a number of years now.

This year, I came up with something so different than anything I have done before and each piece is truly a limited edition of one.

While it is not visible in the photographs on the left, each of these pieces is printed on fine art paper, has a slight encaustic (wax) finish on them and are hung from custom-created wrought iron gates that carry on the theme of the images.

The image on the left is titled “Ethereal Gate” and has a ghostly image of some lacy weeds that juxtapose against the gate itself and when the light shines through the back of the print, it glows in such a way that it appears as though the viewer is looking through a gate to the weeds.

The larger of the two is called “Gatekeeper” and the name really says it all.

The colour photograph on the far right I titled, “Resilience” and I love the way the texture of the plant and stone work in harmony and are equally strong in their own individual way, yet come together beautifully.

The Sidney Fine Art Show opens Oct. 18-20th at the Mary Winspear Centre in Sidney, BC and all three of these signed limited edition art pieces will be for sale and on show there during this time.

Gorge Swim Fest and Esquimalt Arts Festival

It was wonderful to be Creatively United as both an exhibitor and participant in this year’s Esquimalt Arts Festival held in conjunction with Gorge Swim Fest. As a photographic artist and the founder of Creatively United for the Planet, this was a wonderful opportunity to create and collaborate on an even more eclectic and colourful display that also promoted our affiliate year-round new green resource guide and business network the Vancouver Island Green Scene.
With the help of Creatively United volunteers Brian Bury, Tom Smith and Roxanne Duigou we kept busy answering questions all day.
Thank you to everyone who dropped by, including Mayor Barbara Desjardins and council member Lynda Hundelby. Kudos to Creatively United volunteer Morlene Tomlinson for her work organizing a great event. We appreciated the invite

Art Shows

It’s always a wait and see process when entering adjudicated art shows. I recently submitted the following three pieces to the Sidney Fine Art Show for review to see if I was accepted into their prestigious Oct. 14-16 show. The first piece is a photograph I took from my car window this past summer. I loved the old world feel of the scene but wanted to make it even more atmospheric so I got out my acrylic paints and started painting. This was the only one of the three that was accepted into the show but considering they had well over a thousand submissions I’m thrilled. I’ll have these and other works on display for the month of October at the Mocha House in the Cook Street village where I was invited to hang my work.

FALL PICKUP

BEAUTY IN ALL THINGS

This shot was to be of a beautiful lush green cabbage I spotted at the grocery store but accidentally forgot in my crisper until I smelled something (let’s not go there)…anyways, I pulled it out and still found it so beautiful, especially after I peeled back a few of the most rotten cabbage leaves and saw something of a heart before my eyes in an amongst all the beautiful texture of the peeling leaves.

PASSION AFTER THE BLOOM

Sometimes flowers maintain a beauty after they wither and die and that’s exactly what I saw in this collection of the remaining old blooms from a bouquet that had given me so much pleasure that I didn’t want to see it go. However, I couldn’t bring back the sentiment of the bouquet until I added paint to it and worked it into a lush frothiness of warm sensuality, hence the title.
